Itinerary

  • Day 1 : DEPART FOR MADRID
    • Fly through the night to Madrid, Spain.
  • Day 2 : MADRID
    • Your Spanish Prométour Tour Director will greet you at Madrid Barajas Airport. They will remain with your group for the length of your stay.
    • Transfer by luxury motor coach to your centrally located hotel in Puerta del Sol district.
    • After check in, enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of Madrid from the imposing Faro de Moncloa.
    • On your way back, stop at Plaza de Espana to pay tribute to Don Quijote and Sancho Panza, the two defining characters of Spanish literature.
    • See the commemorative plaque to Miguel de Cervantes in Calle Lope de Vega.
    • Tonight, try paella for dinner!
  • Day 3 : MADRID
    • Today, for breakfast experience a typical Spanish treat: churros con chocolate.
    • Begin with a stop by the Plaza de Cibeles with its noble fountain surrounded by some of the most important monuments and buildings of Madrid.
    • Enter the Prado Museum. Here, you will see Las Meninas, by Velazquez along with and masterpieces by Goya, Brueghel, El Greco.
    • Head for the Parque del Retiro. Relax near the magnificent pond and admire the Crystal Palace.
    • Dinner in a typical Spanish restaurant.
  • Day 4 : TOLEDO
    • After breakfast, en route for Toledo, Spain’s medieval capital.
    • On your way, stop in Esquivias where you can visit the Casa Museo Cervantes, where Miguel de Cervantes lived from 1603 to 1606.
    • Upon arrival in Toledo, take a guided tour of the city; visit the Sta Maria la Blanca Cathedral (a former synagogue). See the church of Santo Tomé.
    • See some of the most important paintings of El Greco, the famous Greek artist who painted many canvases of famous monuments during the 15th century.
    • Visit the Sefardi Museum, where you will learn about Spain’s Jewish past prior to 1492.
    • Discover the history behind Toledo’s fortified walls.
    • Dinner and night accommodation in Toledo.
  • Day 5 : CIUDAD REAL
    • After breakfastmake your way to Ciudad Real, a city marked by the history of Don Quijote. Quijote is said to have fought against windmills, which he mistook for giants, at the nearby Campo de Criptana.
    • Next, you will make your way to Almagro, standing in the vast La Mancha tableland.
    • Discover its Plaza Mayor, one of the most unusual squares in Castille. Once the setting for bullfights.
    • Visit the Corral de Comedias, the only Renaissance theatre left in Spain.
    • Tonight stay at a Parador, a 16th century Franciscan monastery converted into a 4 star hotel.
  • Day 6 : PUERTO LAPICE / EL TOBOSO / CUENCA
    • After breakfast at the Parador, head out to Puerto Lapice, a small town in La Mancha where Don Quijote and Sancho Panza spent the night after the adventure with the Yanguesan mares.
    • Next we make our way to El Toboso, the hometown of Doña Dulcinea, Don Quijote’s great love.
    • Visit the Cervantes Museum, located in what is thought to have been the house of his beloved Dulcinea.
    • On your way to Cuenca, have a photo opt at Belmonte, where you will find a Castle-fortress from mid 15th century, today a National Monument.
    • Dinner and night accommodations in Cuenca.
  • Day 7 : CUENCA
    • Rise with the sun in this enchanting medieval city, declared Patrimony of Humanity by UNESCO.
    • Stroll through the narrow streets of Ciudad Antigua, (the old town), and admire the town’s most remarkable sight, the famous Hanging Houses, built overhanging the cliffs.
    • Discover Ciudad Encantada (enchanted city), where erosion has created most bizarre forms.
    • Dinner and night accommodations in Cuenca.
  • Day 8 : ALCALA DE HENARES / MADRID
    • After breakfast, travel to the birthplace of Miguel de Cervantes, Alcala de Henares. Also one of Spain's first university towns, where many of the original university buildings remain intact.
    • Visit Cervantes’ 16th century home, a modest two-story structure, where he spent most of his childhood. Of particular interest is the room filled with editions of Don Quijote translated into more than 20 languages.
    • Dinner and night accommodation in Madrid.
  • Day 9 : MADRID
    • After breakfast, visit the Reina Sofia Museum, home to Picasso’s masterpiece, Guernica.
    • In the afternoon enjoy some free time for personal discovery and shopping.
    • Dinner in a typical Spanish restaurant.
  • Day 10 : RETURN HOME FROM MADRID
    • Breakfast at the hotel with your Prométour Tour Director.
    • Transfer to the airport & board you flight home.
